Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) most often effects babies from 1 month to 1 year of age. The cause of death is undetermined. Through awareness and education, the SIDS rate has dropped 50% in the last 20 years.  Here is a great article that includes safe sleeping practices recommended by the American Pediatrics Association.
