BETTER BALANCE: Embrace NOW

April 27th, 2009 by Susan Kim

Time FliesThe current economy adds an element of stress that can affect our state of mind and our attitude, which can, in turn, disrupt our own health and well being.

It’s ironic really. When we’re busy and overwhelmed with our job and work, we wish we had more time to ourselves for the things we want in life. For some, the economy has opened up time - and plenty of it. But instead of moving forward with what we want to do, urgency drives us toward what we feel we should be doing.

What would happen if you stopped for a second, gave yourself a break and embraced some of this extra time - this time that has been serendipitously  offered to you.

It’s an opportunity to look at life differently.

I’m not saying to ditch your job search or forget about updating your resume, but certainly taking just a little time out for your self each week to do what you want will be rewarding and will even reward you in other ways. Imagine this:

Alison was laid off. She decided to sign up for a couple more yoga classes a week. She’s always wanted to, but never had the time. Yoga clears her head, helps her to maintain her weight and makes her feel great! After class instead of rushing off, as she normally would do, she stuck around and chatted with others. Within a couple of weeks an opportunity from one of her classmates opened up and she’s on the road to employment!

Something very similar actually happened to one of my clients.

Embrace where you are right NOW and you’ll be amazed at the opportunity. It may not manifest itself in employment, but it will make you happier, reduce stress and may even open up unexpected doors!

Make Happiness Yours,
Susan
